Discover the fascinating foreshore of the city
The Thames Explorer Trust has been working with adults and children on the Thames since 1988. It provides high quality learning resources, teacher training and visits for children tailored to the National Curriculum. It also supports foreshore exploration events for adults and families. Thames Explorer is now offering developmental days on the foreshore for London businesses. These will offer a unique historical perspective on the City you thought you knew well, a strong sense of place and a chance for team building or developing new relationships with selected clients in an unusual setting.
Possible components of a foreshore day include:
Exploring the foreshore
You will be certain to find pottery and other artifacts going back hundreds of years and maybe even to the Roman period!
Understanding the historical and socio-economic context of your finds
Taking the opportunity to examine less common finds
Discovering how to identify and date your finds
London’s wealth from the Thames
A major crossing point
A defended site
A waterfront and the city
The Thames river environment
How clean is the river—discover it’s wildlife even in the City?
How is it managed?
Our flexible program allows us to tailor a day session (10.00—16.30) to the needs of your organisation: it may include a foreshore exploration, a good lunch and a selection of our other sessions.
