Hidden treasures of the Thames!
The River Thames is full of hidden treasures and
the secrets that they tell are waiting to be discovered.
The Thames foreshore is a natural archaeology
site that betrays the history of old London life.
Hidden on the foreshore of the Thames are many
treasures that have been left behind through the
ages by people such as the Romans, Victorians
and the Tudors. Artefacts such as pottery, clay
pipes, glassware and building material can be
found and each artefact tells us a different story
of how people once lived and used the river.
Have fun on the foreshore with all the family
and the Thames Explorer Trust on Sunday 25th February,
this is a free family event that is being held
at Shadwell Basin Outdoor Activity Centre from
10.30 am to 2.30 pm. This event will give families
an opportunity to venture onto the Thames foreshore
and learn historical enquiry skills to collect
and identify historical artefacts as evidence
of past local river use. Please call us on 02087420057
to book a place or just turn up!
