What was it like on the Thames foreshore today?
We had an early start on the foreshore, and were
lucky to have enough time to find lots of animals.
Everyone did a fantastic job, We found lots of
fish, including baby flounder and mystery fish
fry.
What does our survey us about the "Rhythms
of the River"?
We know that the baby flounder travel up the
river in the late spring/early summer, so the
ones we found are right on time! We also found
a huge mayfly, which are also around in the early
summer. Like most other groups, we found Chinese
mitten crabs, both live and shells. The shells
let us know that the crabs are growing - not good
news for the river banks! On a positive note,
the other animals collected today, like the sensitive
freshwater shrimp, let us know that the river
is quite clean since they cannot survive in water
with lots of pollution.
