What was it like on the Thames foreshore today?
It was a cold day, we could feel that winter
is on its way! Despite the cold, we had a great
time on the foreshore and everyone did a great
job finding animals. We found loads of freshwater
shrimp, snails and leeches, as well as six small
Chinese Mitten Crabs and a swan musse.
What does our survey us about the "Rhythms
of the River"?
Unfortunately, November is not always the best
time to find animals on the foreshore. But everyone
worked really hard and we found more than we had
expected. We thought the river was clean enough
to support life, and finding so many pollution
sensitive freshwater shrimp proved us right! Also,
it was a really good sign to find so many leeches
and snails. However, finding so many tiny Chinese
Mitten Crabs mean that they are still breeding
near the island (Chiswick Eyot), which is not
good news for the river.
