What was it like on the Thames foreshore today?
We had a humid morning on the foreshore, but
we were still able to find lots of animals. We
found a couple of baby flounder, as well as lots
of shrimps and leeches. We also found a Chinese
mitten crabs, and loads of snails.
What does our survey us about the "Rhythms
of the River"?
We know that the baby flounder travel up the
river in the late spring/early summer, so the
ones we found are right on time! The Chinese mitten
crabs are bad news for the river, since they borrow
into the banks and increase erosion. On a positive
note, the other animals collected today, like
the sensitive freshwater shrimp, let us know that
the river is quite clean since they cannot survive
in water with lots of pollution.
