What was it like on the Thames foreshore today?
We had a cloudy day on the foreshore, and even
had to dodge a few showers. Even though the weather
wasn't great, we still found lots of animals.
Every rock seemed to have shrimps, snails, leeches
and tiny Chinese mitten crabs under it. We also
found quite a few baby fish, probably gobies,
but it is hard to tell when they are that small!
What does our survey us about the "Rhythms
of the River"?
What we found today is consistent with other autumn
findings. The freshwater shrimp are doing well,
which is a good sign for the river. However, the
number of baby Chinese mitten crabs is bad news.
The fact that the crabs are multiplying leads
us to think that they will be doing even more
damage in the future.
