River Links Project
How can I get my class
involved?
To register your class contact Andy, the Trust
Officer on 020 8742 0057 or e-mail
andy@thames-explorer.org.uk.
You will need to provide the following information:
- School name
- Address and contact number
- Your name and e-mail address
- How would you prefer to be contacted?
- Year group
- When will you be studying rivers?
- If you are a London school will you be visiting
TET this academic year?
- Would you like your river link to be a national
or international school or both?
We will then add your name to
our database. When a suitable River Link school
contacts us, we will send you their details and
them yours.
Is safety an issue?
At the TET we are renowned for our safe working
practice. Once you have initially registered with
us, in the interests of safety we would appreciate
it if you could send us a short covering letter
on headed school notepaper, which should include
the details above.
The project is designed to take
place in school time only and should be led by
the class teacher. We suggest that if children
are sending e-mails to your River Link schools,
this should be done through a school e-mail address.
What do we do when we
have our River link school?
When a suitable partner school has been found,
we will send the London school a resource pack
that contains lots of bright ideas to help get
the River links established.
The materials are specifically
related to National Curriculum Programmes of Study
and QCA Schemes of Work. They have been designed
so that during a term you can either produce a
giant A3 book, which you can send to your partner
school and vice versa or you can simply use the
materials to send information regularly via e-mail
or post. It’s up to you!
Thames Explorer Trust support
will be available for the first 12 London schools
that register. Our Education Officer can come
in to your school to introduce your class to this
exciting project. Arrange your visit by contacting
Andy on 020 8742 0057.However
we do recommend that you take part in one of our
river studies programmes, see our school
visits brochure.
What will we have to
do in return?
All that we ask is that you and your class feedback
to our Education Officer once a term. We are interested
to know how you and your River Link School are
getting on and what the children have found out.
We would like to put this information and any
examples of the materials that you have produced
or received on our website.
Who are the International
links with?
We have three environmental organisations and
more on the way. They are recruiting local schools
in their area and will then send us the details
so that we can add them to our database. We will
then pair you up sending you their address and
them yours.
