New A level biology programme
‘The students really enjoyed it and I think they will find it really useful in writing up their unit 3 submission’ Science department, Hammersmith and West London College.
The Thames Explorer Trust has recently developed a new A level biology programme ‘Life processes and living things’ at our river education centre in Chiswick. The programme involves students carrying out fieldwork to determine whether the management of the Tidal Thames is suitable for the maintenance of healthy biodiversity. The programme can be easily adapted to suit your modules and learning objectives.
This is a full day programme in which students will study the decline and recovery of invertebrates and fish in the tidal Thames in relation to water quality. Fieldwork will include kick sampling, identifying invasive species and water quality data collection (dissolved oxygen, nitrate, salinity and temperature). Back at the centre students will identify their invertebrate samples using microscopes and keys. The students will then use sources such as journals and scientific research to prepare and deliver oral presentations on ‘is the management of the Tidal Thames suitable for the maintenance of healthy biodiversity?’
This programee can be tailored to the specific needs of your school and the curriculum being studied, please call us and ask for further details. 0208 742 0057
